Wednesday, 8/20. 7:00-8:30PM. DIY Tenant Organizing: Building Power Through Community presentation by June Nemon. The Hudson Valley is an epicenter of the housing crisis displacing communities across the country. However, our region has also taken the lead in passing tenant protections that allow residents to organize without retaliation. Now, thousands of Hudson Valley tenants have a choice: allow the exploitation to continue unabated or organize and fight back. In the spirit of Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera's S.T.A.R. House and its communal approach to housing queer youth, during this event we will review what it takes to build communal power through tenant associations that protect our access to affordable housing. Attendees will leave with clear steps to create their own associations and win real change in their daily lives.
Location: Good Work Institute, 65 Saint James Street, Kingston, NY
